Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is located south of Victoria's downtown area. It is a nice park with ponds, bridges, flowers and some substantial trees. There are some Blue Herons that nest there who are notorious for making a huge racket at certain times of the year.
The park borders on the Juan de Fuca Strait. Looking across the water gives a view of the Olympic Peninsula and the Olympic Mountains. The mountains rise to a height of nearly 8000 feet. While not especially high they are impressive due to the fact you can view the whole height from ocean level to peak from the park's vantage point.
The logo image at the top of the page is of the Olympic Mountains. It really does not portray how grand they truly are. In the summer months the mountains are completely devoid of snow. In winter their look changes as the white descends, sometimes right to the water's edge.
